Don’t forget Rugby starts before most schools go back….
Tunbridge Wells RFC 7’s team travelled to a 30 degree Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday to contest Regional finals and represent Kent as the winners of the County Competition in the RFU’s 24-7’s Competition. Mav Anderson the Manager of the side had – like some others – found it difficult to get a squad out given the timing and the weather. However, a good quality side of 10 travelled made up of club stalwarts and former players.
Wells found a 9 00 am start on the schedule against England Universities and could have done with this game once they had settled down ultimately losing 25-5 but drawing the second half 5-5. England Universities went on to win the competition and progress to the National finals at the Bath Rec in August. Wells improving as they went narrowly lost to Badgers, a guest 7, 26-19 and then ran out comfortable winners against the Wolves 7 25-10 in the final group game. This put the only town side competing into the Plate final where they came home with the medal beating the Los Pelicanos team 25-10.
As the day progressed so did the teams cohesion with Conor Ward, Max Douch, and James Lineham putting in the tackles and giving a strong defence with George Montgomery being the playmaker and providing many opportunities to break. Skipper Mike Doherty, Max Douch and Matt Spicer provided pace and finishing skills and Ben Hunter gave the squad options, making some great tackles and allowing Maverick to rotate the team in the searing heat. Jordan Earle adding further firepower in the last game to add attacking options.
Squad: Mike Doherty, James Lineham, George Montgomery, Josh Charles, Matt Spicer, Joshua Rice, Max Douch, Fionn McLoughlin, Conor Ward, Josh Charles, Ben Hunter, Jordan Earle. Manager and Coach Mav Anderson.

I have just sourced the majority of our allocation from the RFU for the following games (all 15:00 KO):
England v South Africa on Sat 3rdNovember
England v New Zealand on Sat 10thNovember
England v Japan on Sat 17th November
England v Australia on Sat 24th November
Please note that our total allocation, as a club, is minimal so demand will be very high. If you can source tickets elsewhere I would continue to explore these avenues as well. The situation would improve if fully paid up club members apply for just 1 ticket each as I am sure most attend with fellow club colleagues anyway.
Ticket prices are as follows:
South Africa & Australia – £105, £90, £72 and £50
New Zealand – £115, £95 and £70
Japan – £48, £42, £32 and £25
There are junior tickets available (15 years and under) for the Japan game at £15 if bought with the £42/32/25 adult tickets – i believe we should be able to obtain high numbers of both adult and junior tickets for this game.
The tickets allocated will be on a first come first served basis from 00:01 on 2nd June at my email address: Montgos.firstname.lastname@example.org – please annotate your requirements on first/second choice of game, number of tickets, price of ticket (if available). I don’t envisage anyone obtaining more than a total of 2 tickets.
Notification of ticket allocation, or not as the case may be, will be sent out by return email and a request for payment (+£5 admin charge per ticket) if applicable, after confirming membership status. An online payment is preferred but can also be made by cheque (details to follow within mail return) – no tickets will be released without funds having been cleared and membership confirmation. Please note there will be a reserve list for each game should any member not require their allocation (for whatever reason) and the ticket passed back into the club – we have an obligation to the RFU to be able to name the club member for each and every one of our tickets and if any ticket is found to be placed on the outside market and traced to TWRFC we could well lose our future allocation as a club for a number of years.
I will also attempt to increase our allocation later down the line as some clubs do not utilise their allowance and return back to the RFU.
Bruce Elliott has been the Club photographer for the last 14 seasons.
It’s been another fantastic season for the 1st XV, with our highest ever league finish – 5th at Level 5, in the London & South East Premier League.
For those of you that would like a record of this season, all prints from this and the last few seasons can be found at – http://www.bruceelliottphotography.co.uk/twrfc
>>> Over the Summer Bruce will be removing the 2013/14 albums from the linked website to keep it easy to use <<<
Bruce is also offering Photobooks again this year – a hardback A4 book with images printed onto each page. Above is a couple of pages from a photobook made to commemorate the Twickenham final 2 seasons ago.
The standard books come with 26 pages and will cost £52. Two of those pages (the first and last) are single photos. The rest can have anything from 1 – 9 images per page. Bruce recommends a few single photo pages, maybe one with 9, but the balance with 4 photos to a page. This generally leaves you with a 26 page book with around 70 – 80 photos. Larger books can be made if requested. For every 2 extra pages it would be an extra £2.00.
You get to pick the ratio between shots of yourself (or your loved one) and the rest of the team. It’s a very flexible system and you just need to let Bruce know what you’d like.
>>> Ideally Bruce should have all orders by Sunday 6th May so he can work on them the following week and have them all ready to deliver by the end of May <<<
Please don’t message this club page with enquiries. If you have any questions, or want to order, please email email@example.com with the subject line – TWRFC Photobook
The trio will represent Kent in the Bill Beaumont Cup, which is an annual English rugby union County Championship, organised by the RFU for the top tier English counties.
Twenty Eight counties playing in the senior Men’s County Championship are seeded using results from the previous three seasons to ensure teams are evenly matched. Each team is divided into three tiers with 12 in Tier One, eight in Tier Two, and eight in Tier Three. All tiers will play a minimum of three matches and a maximum of four. This will produce three finals, all to be played at Twickenham stadium.
Kent has performed well over the years and saw promotion from Div 2 South into Div 1 South in 2017. Highlight from previous seasons was their County Championship Div 2 Plate Final at Twickenham in 2016.
Kent’s fixtures are as follows:
5th May 2018 – Hertfordshire v Kent @ Cheshunt RFC, 3:00 pm kick-off
12th May 2018 – Kent v Surrey @ Westcombe Park RFC, 3:00 pm kick-off
19th May – Kent v Devon @ Aylesford RFC, 3:00 pm kick-off
