U17 win a gripping London & SE Bowl Final

U17 win a gripping London & SE Bowl Final

Tunbridge Wells U17   18 v 16   London Welsh U17

On Sunday Tunbridge Wells U17s won the London & SE Division Bowl Final, beating London Welsh 18-16 in a cliff-hanger at Grasshoppers ground in West London.

Playing the first half up the slope and into a strong wind, Wells did well to turn round only trailing by 5-6. Wells then had difficulty imposing themselves on the second half, edging ahead thanks to a second try from Tom Dowding only for Welsh to regain the lead at 15-16 in the dying minutes of the game.

Ryan Fuller then struck a penalty for Wells (to add to his earlier conversion and penalty), at which the final whistle blew leaving Wells the winners.

The game had none of the magical charm of the previous week's semi-final win over Effingham 22-35, but resilient determination and hard graft secured a win in the end. Wells now face the winners of the SW Division competition at Henley on 18th April in the National semi-final.
