At Virgin Atlantic we're passionate about supporting local communities both in the UK and in our global destinations. We tackle difficult social challenges by using all the global resources we have available to us.

Last year we gave over £1 million to children and young people who face extreme neglect, abuse, poverty, violence and social exclusion. With our support they have real choices and opportunities to build a positive future.

Who'd have thought 25 years ago that Virgin Atlantic would be the leading airline player it is today?

The inaugural flight, VS1 from Gatwick to Newark, New Jersey on 22nd June 1984, was a miracle in itself having been planned in just a few weeks.

Now, we use 38 aircraft to fly six million people a year to 33 destinations around the world.

Our 9,000 staff have built an airline that, after 25 years, is still red hot; an airline that focuses on being the best, not the biggest, and injects customer service and innovation into its daily philosophy.

We thank you for your support over our last 25 years and look forward to celebrating the next 25 with you on board soon.

Virgin Atlantic scoops a 'cool' accolade

Virgin Atlantic is now officially the coolest travel brand in the industry! Revealed by the Superbrands organisation as being a 'CoolBrand' for 2009/10, Virgin Atlantic is the only airline to feature in the Top 20 CoolBrand list - including Aston Martin, Bang & Olufsen and Google amongst others - and was a standout winner in the Travel category.

Steve Ridgway, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic, expressed his joy at this news:

"We are delighted to be the only travel company featuring in the Top 20 CoolBrands list. It is testament to Virgin Atlantic's continuing widespread and international appeal, and demonstrates that we are still red hot 25 years on."
