U17 / U18s and Colts

We have a squad of 25+ players and train as a squad playing 2 levels of teams for matches. The squad is run by our enthusiastic and dedicated coaches who have a considerable amount of coaching experience between them.   We have a fantastic group of lads who thoroughly enjoy their rugby at all levels including Kent and Saracens. Many of our players have been part of the squad from as early as U6’s and many more have joined us over the years, from surrounding schools and areas including a number of new players in this year and last.

We welcome new players of all levels.

The coaching team have been working on plans for the coming season to make sure you get the most out of the game. Some coming highlights:
  1. Competitions – we are looking at entering the squad into more competitions to increase game time for all boys:
    1. Turbo Tens – we have entered the competition planned in Sevenoaks during September
    2. U17 Cup – a new competition to encourage boys in our age group to stay engaged in the game, the competition will be run in the first half of the season completing before Christmas
    3. Colts Cup – the Kent FRU competition will run second half of the season, we don’t have dates yet but will be entering at least one squad depending on numbers
  2. Game time – feedback from last year was we didn’t have enough game time last season, due in part to the awful winter we had. We have looked at this and while the increased competition entry will help we are also busy looking at slotting in friendly games between cup games including trying to get a game with TJ’s
  3. Senior Game – we are looking at giving boys an opportunity to play their first Senior game with TWRFC 4th team. This will likely be in March and all boys who are 17 by that date will be eligible to play. It’s a great first step towards the senior games AND may be a chance to play alongside dads/coaches
  4. Tour – we would like to have a tour this year having taken a year out for GCSE’s. Time and location to be confirmed but we would like your ideas on that so give it some thought
  5. Academy – we will be looking at putting more players through the Academy again as always it will be done on ability, attendance and attitude, we are hoping the increased game time we are looking at will give all players the opportunity to shine.
  6. Training – we are looking at how we can make training sessions more interactive for you some options we are looking at:
    1. First team – we are looking at coaching sessions supported by our first team players
    2. Academy – we would like boys already in the Academy to share some of the tips and drills with the wider team – we tried this once last year and feedback from all was good
    3. Guest coaches – self-explanatory watch this space
    4. Self-sufficiency – we’d like you as a group to start to look at what you want from sessions and run them with the coaching team supporting, bring your ideas along, think about some the goals you were asked to set yourself at the awards evening
Cheers
TWRFC U17 Team
