The aim of the coaches has continued to be to make training and festivals as enjoyable as possible whilst trying to instil core rugby values. Teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
We’re supported by a dedicated team of volunteer coaches, assistants and helpers. We started the year by re-focussing on the core skills of Movement, Possession, Support and passing and then moved on to running strength, tagging and teamwork
This year we have been lucky in being able to build on the foundations with a core group of regulars whilst welcoming several new players to the team, adding strength in depth.
Highlights of the 2016/17 season have been:
Attending 6 festivals – At this age group they are non-competitive but this does nothing to dampen the kid’s enthusiasm and determination. Each festival has been attended by at least 1- 2 teams and have been hugely successful.
In November, we played a development festival at Saracens RFC on the 1st team pitch followed by tickets to the European cup match against Sale after. Another fantastic and hugely enjoyable experience for both the children and parents
March saw a team trip to the Harlequins V Newcastle game which included a training session with some of the premiership players, a tour of the club and a half-time photo on the pitch. A lot of the parents and coaches taking full advantage of the hospitality facilities as well!
To all the players, coaches, parents and helpers; new, returning or seasoned campaigners, thank you for your work, your enthusiasm and your continuing passion for the game. Next season will see the challenge of starting contact rugby which the whole team is excited about.
We are looking forward to next season as under 9s and welcome new members.
Training is Sunday 10-12 at St Mark’s Ground, Frant road, TN2 5LS
